What is Restylane?
Restylane is a collection of FDA-approved dermal fillers that use hyaluronic acid gel to gently but effectively plump various facial areas, like the cheeks and lips. Whether you want to plump the appearance of thinning, aging lips or loss of volume in your cheeks, there’s a Restylane injection that’s just right for your needs.
The Restylane line of anti-aging injectables includes:
- Restylane for nasolabial folds
- Restylane Silk for lip augmentation
- Restylane Defyne and Refyne for laugh and smile lines
- Restylane Lyft for midface and cheek volume
Most Restylane injectables last anywhere from six to 18 months, depending on the injection site and product selected.
Candidates for Restylane
The best candidates for Restylane injections are those individuals who have significant wrinkles and folds around the lips and nose. Additionally, Restylane candidates may have noticed key volume loss around the cheeks. Your preferred Restylane injection will largely depend on the area where you’ll see the best results.

How Does It Work?
Restylane’s line of anti-aging fillers contain hyaluronic acid (HA), which is formulated into different gels. Depending on where the filler is injected, these gels help achieve the most natural results. For example, if you’re interested in increasing lip volume, your Restylane injection will contain a thinner HA gel consistency; if you want to enhance cheek volume, your injection will have a thicker gel so results show better. Restylane anti-aging injectables can last for a year or more, depending on the specific filler that’s being used.
Is It Painful?
Restylane injections aren’t painful, but some patients may be afraid of feeling uncomfortable because the formula is injected via a fine-tip needle. If you’re worried about feeling uncomfortable during the procedure, your provider can prep your skin using a numbing cream.
Is There Any Downtime?
There’s no downtime associated with Restylane treatments. You may experience slightly red, irritated, or bruised skin at the injection site, which should disappear after a few days. Because swelling can occur in the lip area, we recommend having your treatment two weeks prior to any social functions or engagements.
