What is a Brow Lift?
As we age, unsightly wrinkle lines may appear on the forehead. Frown lines between the brows can make us look angry or “too serious.” Skin relaxation may cause the eyebrows to drop, hooding our upper eyelids and making us look tired. A brow lift can correct these issues, creating a more youthful appearance.
A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift can help:
- Reduce the wrinkle lines that develop horizontally across the forehead, as well as those that occur on the bridge of the nose, between the eyes
- Improve frown lines, the vertical creases that develop between the eyebrows
- Raise sagging brows that are hooding the upper eyelids
- Place the eyebrows in an alert and youthful position
If you are bothered by these signs of aging in the brow region, a brow lift may be right for you.
Candidates for a Brow Lift
The best candidates for a brow lift may have noticed significant sagging around the eyebrows and eyelids. Some candidates may be particularly bothered by deep furrows between the eyebrows, as it may make them look tired, angry, or constantly perplexed.
Candidates should be healthy non-smokers who have realistic expectations for their results and are willing to follow their plastic surgeon’s recommendations for recovery.
How Does It Work?
A brow lift is performed by correcting sagging forehead muscles, eliminating excess skin, and lifting the eyebrows to reposition them in a more youthful and refreshed place.
To begin the brow lift procedure, your plastic surgeon will make incisions within the hairline, which allows for access to the forehead muscles. Your plastic surgeon may also make incisions within the eyebrows to access muscles that contribute to frown lines.
Once these incisions are made, your plastic surgeon will access the forehead and eyebrow muscles and reposition them to correct sagging. Finally, excess skin will be trimmed and your incisions will be closed. Eyelid lifts are often performed in conjunction with brow lifting procedures.
Your brow lift results can usually be seen within three to four weeks after the procedure. Brow lift procedures have high patient satisfaction rates, with results lasting between five to ten years. You may want to combine a brow lift with a face lift procedure to see your best results.
The initial recovery period from a brow lift procedure usually takes about two weeks, with final results visible after 12 to 16 weeks. You may want to take your first week off of work, as you’ll notice a lot of bruising and swelling. By the second week, you should be able to go back to work and cover up your bruising with makeup. You should be able to get back to your normal routine (including physical activity) within the third or fourth week after recovery.
